Southern highbush developed at USDA-ARS site adjacent to DeSoto National Forest in Mississippi. Productive, vigorous but semi-dwarf with upright, spreading habit. Blooms 2-3 weeks later than early-midseason cultivars.
Medium to large fruit with excellent color, flavor and firmness.
Latest ripening Southern highbush variety. Fruit matures 14-21 days after cultivars like Climax. Named to reflect development site near DeSoto National Forest. Recall Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto who died 1542 in Arkansas. Should be planted wherever de Soto traveled through the South.
